So, my question is, why is our church not cancelling church services for such an event? I mean, it isn’t as if the Super Bowl happens every week, like our Sunday School and worship services do. Can’t we get one simple service off?

Really, where in the Bible does it say we need to attend every service, or that the worship of God can’t be cancelled or put on hold for one Sunday? Is it really that big of a deal or even a sin in the eyes of God, when we already give him 10% of our money each paycheck whether we come to church or not?

Well…okay, I don’t always give 10% or make every service, but I’m sure not going to let missing church services for the Super Bowl trouble my conscience. Homecoming…isn’t that something they have for teenagers in high school? What are we supposed to do, run out of the Sunday School classes into the auditorium when the bell rings like a football team stampeding out of the locker room onto the field? I believe they have invited some preacher that used to pastor or at least preach here, doesn’t the bible say something about ‘old things have passed away, behold all things have become new?’ And, we are even supposed to eat afterwards, so I guess it will be a long day. Well, for those who choose to stay. I may bring my special dessert. It would probably be better than what most people would bring. So many people have told me how great it is and how they would like the recipe, but I just tell them it is a secret and they can’t have it. Could you imagine how many would probably try to bring it the next time? Huh. I just don’t understand why we can’t just have our regular boring services and all go home to take our naps. But, I’m not in charge, just a voice in the pew.

Hurricane Gustav

Do you know even though there was a hurricane heading straight for us that church still had the 5th Sunday Singing and the anniversary party for the pastor and his wife? Can you believe it!? How can people eat, drink, and be merry when we are fixing to be torn to shreds by Gustav? Prayer and faith in God, I say run and take cover trusting I have done enough preparation to keep myself safe. I am sure God understands that I missed church so I could sit in my easy chair watching the news reporter repeat over and over again for hours the five minutes worth of estimated information they have of the expected damage Gustav will leave when it comes across Louisiana. Who has time to pray with all the worry that comes with bad weather approaching? These are the same people that will trust God and look at the positive through it all, even if they lose power, trees and limbs fall in their yard, or they have to go out to help others in need. Well, I for one will be mad, for I am a Christian and I ought to be exempt from trials and tribulations. Hurricanes are to whip the heathen in line, not to bother us saved folk. Well, good thing I have the number to the church and my deacon. I’m sure not going to get out there and pick up the debris in my yard, I’ll let one of them or some of the Youth come do it. Well, I am a member of the church even though I can’t make it most Sundays, and true I didn’t vote for him, but he is my deacon so I might as well use him. As for the Youth, it will be good to help the elderly, we don’t want them growing up running from church work now do we.

August Fifth Sunday Singing

Guess what we are having at our church this coming Sunday night? Apparently, there isn’t a real name for it, so it is just called Fifth Sunday Singing. Don’t we get enough singing on Sunday mornings? I mean, I personally don’t sing because I would rather just sit quietly in the pew and get on with the message so we could maybe get out a little earlier to beat the traffic going home. My friend told me they went last time and the music was nice, but they always enjoy anything and everything the church has so they probably aren’t a good person to ask. Chances are they will have children that can’t really play their instruments, elderly people that can’t sing, and young people shouting that new Christian rock music; not that we ever have such during the church services I have attended. Maybe I’ll go and sit in the back so I can slip out if need be. Yes, I can sit on the pew with you-know-who and talk about what we like and dislike about each song. I just hope that music director doesn’t make us sing, of course I won’t, but I would have to sit there while everyone else did. Huh, ‘make a joyful noise before the Lord’, that’s talking about when we get to Heaven, most of this noise here at church doesn’t make me very joyful.

Rainy Sunday Morning Sleep-In

Well, I woke up this morning and saw the rain drops falling all around, and the first thing I thought was: I’m not getting out of bed to go to church in this weather. I mean, what’s the point of getting dressed in my nice clothes, just to have my shoes ruined by walking through the water in that church parking lot? And why don’t those deacons we have meet people in the parking lot with umbrellas so people don’t have to get wet? Sure, they may get soaked, but that’s their job, and at least the rest of us could enjoy a dry service. I might would go then, but I don’t know, my hair would probably flop. No, I haven’t had time to read it yet, but I believe it has something to do with deacons. I wish I could be a deacon. I bet I could get this church in line. But, I’m a woman and these current deacons aren’t going to let that happen this side of glory, so we women folk will just have to band together and all pick the same names to nominate. I mean, really, I barely make it to church on time in the mornings, how am I supposed to pray over these names when I don’t even know who most of these men are? I can tell you who I’m not going to vote for, that’s for sure. Qualifications, who determines these qualifications anyway? I know they covered the new policy for deacon nomination and election on the last Wednesday night business meeting, but that is my favorite TV night so I couldn’t make it. You want to come over, or you going to have fun at that party too?

I've Got A Prospect For You!

Did you hear that Sunday School director during morning announcements this past Sunday? And then the pastor had to emphasize it. Why is he talking about filling out ‘Who Do’ cards when we barely have enough room for us charter members to have a place to sit? I mean, just the other Sunday morning I came in late and had to sit elsewhere because some visitor was sitting in my seat! Who do I know that may benefit from our Sunday School and our church, what a question. I know I don’t have time for Sunday School, so why should I try to get anyone else to come? Honestly, why do we need to move tables or our chairs around in our Sunday School classes anyway? Sure, it may make a little more room, but why must everything be done for visitors to have them feel welcome? What about the members who show up every Sunday? Prospects? I’ve got a prospect, why can’t the members make their Sunday School room how they like it and the visitors will just have to fit in where they can? But, I’m not going to get involved, I’m just telling you, so let’s just keep this in the pew shall we.
